See what's being said about Desert Journeys!

Just wanted to let you know that we really appreciated the book! We were in Tuscon two weekends ago--when the weather was just beautiful and the book made our trip so much easier--no wasted time figuring out routes.

We took the 43 miler from the University all the way north to Ina Dr and over and down to Broadway and back. Good overview of the city. Then we did the 62 miler out to Arivaca and back. We really enjoyed that ride--especially the way back down and with the tailwind!

Then the last day we did the Saguaro Monument ride and then went out to Crystal Cave and back. Also a good ride. And, sadly had to pack up our tandems and head home. The El Conquistador was a good place to stay--big suites (important for putting our tandems together and storing them) and we rented a pickup so we could get around with them. Traveling with tandems takes a little more planning.

I wish you would do more city guides. It was so well done and easy to use. We could have used one when we took 8 tandems down to Fredricksburg, TX last May. A really great place to ride, but we spent a lot of time figuring rides out.

The guide was so well laid out. It was obvious that a graphics professional had done it. The size was perfect--just fit in Tom's back pocket! I hated that he sweat on it until I thought to put it in a ziploc!  We wasted no time getting to the bike store when we needed to have brakes adjusted.

And, we loved knowing the elevation changes prior to getting into it--or at least I did--since I had been a slug for several months and wasn't really ready for the mileage and climbing that we did! It could easily have been worse and when one is on the back of the tandem--one goes where it goes!

So, thanks for your help--and what a great job!

From Highroads (AAA) Magazine, January/February 2008:

"Tucson, the reputed "Astronomy Capital of the World" is quickly gaining ground in the ranks of another international hobby: bicycling. Perpetual sunshine, a bicycle-friendly infrastructure and the annual El Tour de Tucson are a few reasons for Tucson's burgeoning reputation among enthusiasts. Desert Journeys: A Guide for the Tucson Road Cyclist, a slick photo-enhanced book, provides riders with detailed directions for over 30 local rides. Tucsonans, the time has come to shake out your spandex shorts, strap on your camelback and join your town's earth-friendly obsession."

From Arizona Foothills Tucson Magazine:

"If you're like most people, your New Year's resolution has something to do with slimming down. Cycling can be a great alternative to countless hours on a treadmill, and now novices have a great book to get the started -- Desert Journeys: A Guide or the Tucson Road Cyclist -- by Tucsonan Jerry Rosen ... Now there's no excuse not to hit the pavement."

From American Bicyclist, Nov-Dec 2007:

"Every city in the country could use a helpful, colorful, and spiral-bound book just like this one. Next time you plan on going for a ride in the Tucson area, be sure to take this book with you."

From the Tucson Guide, Fall 2007:

"Jerry Rosen's new field guide presents first-hand, easy-to -use information on 32 popular (and well-paved) rides throughout Tucson.  You'll find ride descriptions and ratings, helpful maps and GPS profiles, safety information and rules of the road, and plenty of local knowledge geared to cycling enthusiasts.  Its a long-overdue resource for a city that offers some of the most astonishing road routes in the nation."

From Tailwinds, July/August 2007:

"As bicyclists well know, there is no better way to get to know an area than to see it from the seat of a bicycle. But because humans are creatures of habit, we tend to adopt a handful of routes and stick to them, limiting the potential of our exploration. For Tucson residents and visitors author Jerry Rosen has made it not only easy, but also very tempting to get out of that riding rut.

Rosen’s self-published book, “Desert Journeys: A Guide for the Tucson Road Cyclist,” is more than a compendium of ride directions. Much more. Rosen’s photos, which range from exceptional to stunning, give the book coffee table cachet."

"Whether you are a visitor looking for a place to ride or a long time rider who could use a little variety - and who couldn’t? - this book would make a nice addition to your library."

From the Arizona Daily Star, August 16, 2007:

"Tucson often wins praise as a bike-friendly city, but riders have had to rely on word of mouth to learn about some of the best road-cycling routes. Until now. A new book called "Desert Journeys: A Guide for the Tucson Road Cyclist" ($25, published by author Jerry Rosen) details 32 diverse rides in the Tucson area. Rosen — a Tucson cyclist, photographer and writer — offers a concise guide to routes ranging from mostly flat spins to a challenging ascent of the Catalina Highway."
